Transmission oil. S20. 1993 del sol
Looking thru po receipts. Seen that the last servicing the "shop" put 80/90 in the tranny. The manual call for 5w30 or 5w40. How do I clean this out. I have pulled the plug and verified by smell, it is 80/90. Should I run 50/50 atf?

Drain it out, put recommended oil. Run car, drain, refill, repeat. Do that a few times. That's about as good as it gets without removing the transmission and doing a full disassembly.

threads like this make me glad i do my own work. just replaced a tie rod end that was put on "backwards". gotta love national chain shops with name recognition that make normal idiots feel all warm and fuzzy. op- follow 24ten's advice, the drain and flush works. get it nice and warm before you drain it each time.

Drain and refill a few times was my plan of attack. Thanks for confirming that. I have a 94 ford ranger that calls for atf in the MT. It seized up in 4th gear because po serviced it with 80/90 like the manual called for had it had the Mitsubishi MT in it. This one has the ford MT and it calls for atf. No oil got picked up by the slinger and dropped in the pan to be routed to 4th and 5th. Hence. No more tranny.
