check the fluid in your cvt. have you kept it serviced? dump the fluid and check it for smells, color, quantity. look in your manual for the right fluid to use, if i am not mistaken, it uses standard honda auto trans fluid. do not put a generic brand fluid in there. honda fluid is different.

yea sorry about that i didnt realize we were talkin about a auto tranny. at any rate it shouldnt need "a break." i would def. look into getting a tranny flush. outside of that im not that great with auto trannys so i would get it looked at if after the flush if it still does that. sounds like it could be some kind of sensor prob too.

cmon help this HT guy out

From the sounds of it i dont know if a tranny flush will help you at this point. Although you only said top end you have this problem but it could still be your torque converter or the "clutches" that are in the transmission giving out. Does it matter how much throttle you give it or no matter what it revs?

sounds like your cvt is crapping out on ya. You can try changing the fluid but you have to goto honda and get their auto cvt fluid for it. I would try changing it first and see how it is afterwards but if it still does it then you'll be looking at another tranny. The cvt's are notorious for being junk and if mine would've been an auto I wouldn't of bought it. I've heard a lot of stories that honda auto trannys suck and that the manual ones are a lot better.

hx came with either a cvt or a manual transmission which was the same as a 96-00 cx transmission, which was the same as a 96-00 dx transmission, but with a 3.7222 instead of the dx's 4.058

I can't think offhand of anything else to try. I'm pretty sure this was honda's first attempt with a continuously variable transmission in a car which turned out miserably imo. The cvt is hella expensive and most people convert theirs to a manual one instead.

this is exactly correct I know a girl who had to rebuild hers 2wice for a FORTUNE. swap it out.
I dont know how that tranny works but its way too complicated.

how it works is fairly simple but imo the application for it in a vehicle is just wrong or at least not untill they get all the bugs worked out. Here is a link on how cvt's work http://www.answers.com/topic/c...ssion

Changing the fluid on an auto tranny that has been neglected usually makes the problem worse.

I'm not exactly sure how the HX's CVT works, but it's probably too late for this one. You might be better off replacing it with a known good unit.
