Transmission housing busted... is it possible to weld?
This sucks. I just purchased a 99 Civic SI from a friend a week ago. Its original transmission was broken so he swapped in a USDM ITR transmission that he had laying around. I assume he forgot to bolt up the rear mount to the transmission all the way, in other words only inserted by hand partially. Now the mounting point for the mount on the transmission is completely ripped off. Is it possible to weld the piece back on? Any help is much appreciated.

Ive never heard of anyone welding them myself and ive been around alot of them considering I used to work in a performance shop. But im not sure if it can be done or not. If you find out you cant and decide not to use the tranny lyet me know i really need a b series hydro tranny for internal parts and id be highly interested. Sorry I couldnt help you more.

Re: (Nuke209)
see if you can get any cheap casings, that is all I can tell you.
JB weld would only hold if there wasn't any stress from a screw. I doubt jb weld could hold that especially with all the vibrations that comes from that screw.

This happens pretty frequently because so many people involved in this hobby half-*** their work. JB weld won't work at all, so don't waste your time. No epoxy-based chemical is going to be strong enough to keep that from coming undone again. You can get it tigged by a professional, but it'll be expensive and time consuming. My suggestion is to get the guy who initially fucked it up to pay for a proper fix or a new transmission.

U can get i welded w/ aluminum. I'm sure a machine shop or a body shop would do it.

Thats what a drill and a tap are for.

Looking at the piece, i cant see how JB weld would work. Dont get me wrong, ive used it many times but this piece is a structural piece.
The reason why im asking if its weldable is because it doesn look like its pure aluminum. I may be wrong but i just want to make sure that its not an aluminum/mag alloy or something.

when i cracked my old trans replacing the clutch ( dropped it from a foot) I had it welded at the machine shop. Cost me $100 and I have never had any problems.
