transmission bell housing leak
ok, here;s my problem....97 dx 5 speed bone stock, 150 k. tranny is original and shifts butter smooth. engine no leak.
tranny has a leak coming from the bottom of the bell housing...so a sure sign that the input shaft oil seal is leaking right? pulled the tranny...put on another tranny..leak gone, rear main seal on the engine is dry.
REBUILD my original leaking tranny, changed the ISB and all oil seals, very carefully put back together. pull out replacement tranny, put back original tranny...LEAK comes back from same spot!!
frustrated as i am, i wont pull the tranny again, i'll just check the level every 3k and top up. i still like to know what COULD be a possible source of the leak tho...im guessing there;s a crack in the clutch side housing ...or maybe the collar surrounding the input shaft . any1 has any ideas?? thanks.

when you pulled it the first time, did you notice a stream from the input shaft? Because if that where it at, then thats it. Even if it was rebuilt, things are wierd like that sometimes.

Re: (z6hatchboy)
so should i pull it and check again? leaks not bad...prob can get away with topping out every 3-5k.
i was just wondering if the casing was leaking. if the ISB bearing was moving about then i should get noises when in idle but i dont.
