Default Transmission

The gears on my car are all messed up. I have a 4 speed and it's almost like everything just shifted over. My reverse is now 1st gear, but then 2nd, 3rd and 4th are still the same. I have no reverse... I don't know if it's the transmission or the bushings or? Somebody please help!

it's either your gear selector indicator, or you linkage.

On auto's, you should be able to adjust the linkage so that 1st gear shows 1st, R shows R, etc etc

Actually, I was driving through a parking lot and going over speed bumps. I went over one a little too fast and heard a loud thud. I pulled into a parking space and when I tried to reverse out, my car kept going forward. So I just rolled backwards but when I tried to go in first gear my car died because that was no longer first. I have been driving with my gears messed up for a couple of weeks now because I am afraid that I will take it somewhere and it will be 100's of dollars.

Do you know a good place to get shift linkage... could I buy it used? Is it easy to replace?

Did you visually inspect it? Just look under the car to see if anything is bent.

No, I didn't... I wouldn't know what to look for. We took the shift boot off to see if we could see anything from the top of the car... but not underneath.

I think its manual by his description. If you have a digicam, jack up ur car and take a pic so we have a better idea of whats going on.
