Ok here is a quick question

On my trans the 4rth - 5th gear grinds rarely but it happens more when your driving hard on it. Only 4rth and 5th

Should I

A. Sell my trans for what I can get and get a replacement Trans?

B. Buy a 4rth and 5th gear syncro

C. Deal with it and suck it up its only 5th gear

D. Save and buy a JDM LSD and 4rth and 5th syncro


Let me know what you guys think. How hard is it to change syncros? Where is a good price on a B16 LSD trans?

i would just deal with it another tranny is going to cost 600 -1300 w/lsd, so just drive it till you cant stand it any more or until it breaks. and also if you search there was a guy who took apart his tranny and made a write up

I forget if I did a write up on my transmission or not.

I changed my 5th gear synchro this spring because a stupid spring washer was installed correctly (and was supposed to be backward) and siezed the outer ring. I paid full price for the parts (just under $300); yet they can be had for around $200 from hparts.com. I changed the synchro hub/ring assembly and the 5th gear cog (which I shouldn't have, because now I have a whine due to one cog being new and the other being slightly worn). So I think you can get away with $120 to $140 of parts for the synchro set and install that. The difficulty scale on a transmission job is around an 8 or so; so don't attempt it unless you have a backup car, service manual and someone to go to incase something goes wrong.
