Default Tranny Question

I have a transmission that says E5F on it and also says S40. Does anyone know what civic this came off of. It also says A000 and P4A on the tranny. Thanks for the help.

Looks like a 6th gen with the longer gearing. I searched "s40" in the archives and found this:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by civic97b18csi &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The little sticker tells you NOTHING about the tranny gearing, only what generation it is.
L3 = 88-91
S20 = 92-95
S40 = 96-00

To TRUELY know if you have a small bearing case or a large bearing case, you must find the casting numbers near the oil fill plug.

96-00
P4A-A000 = small bearing case = DX/HX/LX etc.
P4A-B000 = large bearing case = EX

info provided by Mista Bone

</TD></TR></TABLE>

Hope that helps...

I have that same tranny sitting on the shop floor and it came from a DX car. So I would say you have a DX tranny.
