Don't know anything about hydro's but I think the internals are basically the same as cables. Anyways, you either have a bent shift fork, or your synchros were tore up sometime, and the synchro sleeve can't get over the smashed metal. Almost positive its your synchros.
If it is just one gear that is hard to go into, then it wouldn't have anything to do with the clutch. It would be hard to get into every gear if your clutch was messed up.

Just thought I'd clarify a bit, synchros have teeth all along the outside of them, and they may have been smashed due to quick shifts and grinds, and the sleeve doesn't mesh with the synchro.

now's a good time to learn to rebuild a manual tranny! it really isn't that difficult, provided you have patience and are able to follow directions very, very well.

I simply dont have time or money to experiment on my tranny. I may have to take it to get done = ( i hat epaying people to do my work for me.....
any ideas on tranny rebuild costs... would it be more practical to sell the tranny as is and buy another? or jsut buy another and rebuild this one later for sale.suggestions please.

wouldn't it be more plausible to get a new tranny? i heard paying someone to rebuild costs lots and lots of money because it takes lots and lots of time.

i think you would be better off selling your old tranny. get a new one from h-motors online. then find someone to install it for you...it would probably range between 600-800. went shopping around today, looking for a new tranny for my boyfriend's LS and it costs about 1300 to rebuild the tranny.

Start with the basic and easiest. Check your Manual transmission fluid levels. you may need to change it.

does it do it when the engine is off as well as when it's running?
i had the original clutch in my car self-destruct at the damper springs in the disc. the washers that spread the load at each end of the spring in the disc fell out and would intermittently jam the clutch so that it would seem like i was loosing a synchro or the clutch wasn't disengaging. it was very weird and i could work around it by doube-clutching, popping the clutch, or even just making a _very_ slow shift. these tricks all worked because the engine rpm's would drop during that time, allowing the washers to un-jam themselves when i released the clutch. i started to yank the tranny thinking i had trashed the synchros or something, then decided to look at the clutch while i was in there. low and behold, the disc came out in 12 peices. one more hard launch and the splined portion would have competely sheared away from the friction material. put the tranny in with a new clutch and it was fine.
also, DO NOT put mobil1 synthetic in your tranny. it's so damn slippery your synchros will hardly work at all.
