What kind of tranny? If its a d series im betting that your shifter forks are bent.. or it could be your running low on fluid.

have you checkd the fluid level? how about the clutch?

to me, sounds liek a clutch problem rather than a transmission problem.

hrmmm had a similar problem , check slave cylinder .... does the transmission make a noise when started , an annoying sound ????? .... if it does hold the clutch down and if the noise/sound goes away , its probably bad throwout bearing .... lmk how it goes goodluck

Before you start spending hundreds of dollars on a guess, why don't you check to see if:

1. The slave cylinder operates, with NO leaks
2. The master cylinder operates with NO leaks
3. There are no odd noises from the transmission
4. When the car gets to the point where you cannot shift, can you cylce through the gears with the engine off

I would say its the clutch. One time, during racing, a very very small piece of the clutch broke off and i couldn't shift into any gear, but then I could off and on. Another time, my throw bearing went out and I couldn't shift into any gear also. I would say, clutch or throw bearing from personal experience. But a bad throw bearing would make tons of crappy noise and you might see a little smoke from the friction somewhere around the bearing in the tranny.

It's the clutch imo. A tranny problem is consistent.

if you had a bad clutch it would effect shifting in all gears. difficulty shifting into 5 could be from a bad linkage, or a bad 5th/R fork.
