Tranny problem!
Ok I have a 97 Ex 5 speed. I've been having problems with my transmission kind of making a constant grinding noise. It does it in all gears. If I'm stopped with the clutch in the grinding stops. If I take it out it starts back up. If I'm moving with the clutch in you can hear it grind until I come to a complete stop. Thought it might have been the clutch so I got it replaced and it still does it! Anyone have any idea of what's going on with it?

Transmission input bearing?
If you sit there with the clutch in, the transmission shafts aren't moving. If you let the clutch out in neutral, the transmission mainshaft starts to spin. If that's when you get noise, then it's coming from inside the tranny.

Is it a grind or a whine? I had the same problem but it was whining. It was the inputhaft bearing.
I had the trans replaced with a used one with lower mileage and now car is quiet, hehe

He put a clutch in it already. I assume they changed the pilot bearing at the same time.
Switching the tranny's the more expensive route but, it should solve the problem.

Re: Tranny problem! (Syndacate)
They did replace the pilot bearing. They put a whole new clutch kit in. It doesn't whine at all it just grinds. Sometimes when I take off in a gear it might take a certain RPM for the grinding to kick in or sometimes it just starts as soon as I press the gas. So I guess I'll start checking prices for a new input bearing. Keep posting so I can learn more about this! Thanks everyone!
