TRANNY PROBLEM!

ok.........whenever i'm driving SLOW and when my car is about to hit 2nd gear...it revs up and drops into 2nd. Im guessing its slipping so its time for a new clutch, but since my car is automatic and i cant stand it...im wondering what new stick tranny can i put on the d17(lx) anything would be better than stock auto tranny, help!

Jimmy 07-27-2005 09:50 PM

Automatics don't have clutches.
How many miles does the car have??

I don't know about on the D17, but i know all d-series parts are interchangeable and IF you can swap trannies i'd go with an S20 (92-95 civic ex/si tranny) It's the shortest geared tranny for d-series.

What the fuck does that have to do with the problem at hand? 69 posts and you're talking shit? Please, retract your moronic statement.

And you, don't sound like you're 12 years old. Thanks.

For the problem at hand, is there any warranty left on the vehicle? Have you changed out your fluid and topped it off with fresh fluid?

you have a torque converter, not a clutch. but, if you want to change the clutch, get an ACT twin plate https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif never slip again PROMISE https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

EDIT: PWNT

All you people that are saying that automatics don't have clutches do know that automatic transmissions have internal clutch plates right? And for the most part, slippage is due to the clutches being worn past their OEM-spec.

Re: TRANNY PROBLEM! (SpoonLx)

would u hav to do some major drilling and mounting to swithc up to a manual tranny?..think shift linkage, mounts, axles?(different ones?) is there ample room?
and yes if your tranny fluid is low or if your finding red liquid under your car...could feel like a slipping clutch...happened to me before

Re: TRANNY PROBLEM! (Jay-Dee-Em)

If you want it to drive normal sounds like you need to change the torque converter (easiest way) or if you really want to switch to a manual tranny you'll need (clutch slave, master cylinder, all hydraulic lines, trans mount, 5spd trans, 5spd ecu,5spd pedals, 5spd flywheel, clutch, and shift linkage) and money for the swap or some time. also 5spd mounts for the trans hasport carries those https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif

I'm willing to bet the D17 manual transmissions bolt up the D17 engine just like all the 92-00 D-Series transmissions bolt up to all the 92-00 D-Series engines.

But, you're going to need all the hardware. Transmission, shifter linkage, pedal assembly, clutch, flywheel, pressure plate, all bolts, and more importantly, the ECU. Sometimes, automatic ECU's are different in terms of air/fuel mapping, parameters for sensors, etc...etc...etc...
