Re: tranny noise (SO[vtec]HC)
I have a 98 civic and when I had the stock d16 in it I got this weird noise coming from the tranny at idle. when I stepped on the cluth it would go away. eventually my tranny went bye bye and the guy at the shop said it was the drive shaft or something like that, went out cus Honda put "Honda manual transmission fluid" in it. thats just what the mechanic told me.

Re: tranny noise (95CivicSi)
yeah, everyone told me it was my throwout bearing in my clutch making that noise, but when my tranny went bye bye, we pull it out and saw nothing wrong with the clutch or bearings.
It could be something totally different than mine, but thats just the experience I went through.

I got the same thing. Just put an ACT clutch in a few months ago....so I doubt mine is the throwout.
There was a topic on this before....I just searched and couldn't find it, but I printed it from before so I'll put it down here.
"Well, I didn't quite understand transmissions so, I took the car to a shop and they went with me on the test drive.... The throw out is active when the clutch is depressed....that is when I would hear the noise... its not noisey when the clutch is depressed... it makes noise when I am driving in all gears.... doesn't change when turning from side to side..... mech thinks that it is one of the main bearings in the tranny itself..... so, I guess that I am gonna have to purchase another tranny...."
Later post said input shaft bearing might be the problem.
Oh, BTW....I have an ACT heavy duty pressure plate with the street/strip? disc. Holds 8psi on a greddy kit quite nice. Pedal feel is almost like stock and the engagement on the clutch itself is a little more touchy (off and on) but its easy to get used to.

if your going street, stay with a stock clutch setup.
13.55 on stock setup, 75 shot of nos, 7200 rpm launch on slicks.
BTW the stock clutch has about 90,000 miles on it now.
