tranny making funny sounds.
Video: youtube
well, its runs great, my stock d16y8 tranny is making a funny sound now. only in first and second gear though. when the car is at rest, and you go into first. there is a strange clicking sound almost. and when you take it up to past 4k, the sound disappears. go into second, and its back until i hit like 4k again. i duno what is wrong. maybe i rev my stock motor too much. Can anyone help? maybe this is an early warning of my clutch about to go out.

does it do it when the car is in neutral with the clutch out? does the clutch pedal being pushed affect the noise? could be the input shaft bearing

damn, 1g. i'd rather swap. i can get a whole complete jdm b16 for only1500. thanks man. well, more details: then your in neutral, you can kinda hear that noise, but once you step on the clutch, the noise is gone. and say when you in second and your slowing down, you can hear it. I'll take a video and show you guys.

Re: tranny making funny sounds. (nine78guy)
sounds like the main shaft bearing. If you are not up to replacing it, you can always get a used tranny too. Since the sound goes away when you hit the clutch, then you can rule out the throw-out bearing, and that means it is a bearing in your tranny. The mainshaft bearing is usually the culprite. a cheap fix if you do it yourself, just time consuming.

Mines doing the exact same thing. Pissing me off. Someone said input shaft bearing? Is that correct?
Noise only noticable in first and second at low RPMs and at idle. Gone when the clutch is in.

Re: tranny making funny sounds. (JDM Vision)
its not that hard to fix. if i had a scanner i could send you and diagram of a s1 tranny so you can get the idea. its most likey a bearing. maybe input or throw out.

Like everyone else said its a good chance its your input shaft bearing. You can fix it your self if you have a couple of tools its not hard.
heres the write up https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=596873
change your throw out bearing while your at it since that is most likely bad as well.

Re: (nine78guy)
from what you told us, I am pretty sure it is the input shaft bearing. If it was the throw out bearing then it would make noise when you push the clutch in. I cant watch the video(dial-up sux), but i dont need to either. The input shaft bearing(main shaft bearing) is known to go bad on the d-series. If you want a swap, and you can get it cheap, then whatever, it is your car. But it really is not worth is just because a bearing in your tranny went bad. If i went and got a new engine everytime something went wrong, i would be out a lot of money. Just my .02
man up and tear that tranny a new one
edit: you dont need a press to get the bearing out either.

Re: (ADVAN EG2)
I've got this in my D series 94 coupe. I pretty well know it's the input shaft bearing. My question is. How terrible is tihs to just let go. Yeah it makes a noise. I have no problems shifting gears or antyhing. More less an annoying noise right now. What will this snowball into?

worst case scenario, i guess it could explode and you would be out a transmission. Not something i would risk letting go.

If theres noise, that means theres metal to metal contact which means its more or less just a matter of time. If it is the bearing it could eventually get too hot and sieze.
As for what the noise is in the video, I have no clue. But it doesnt sound good.

Re: (schlit)
the throwout bearing makes sound when you depress the clutch, does it not? That is what I have always heard. True it could not be the ISB, but that is what it sounds like.
