yes...2 qts is adequate. You can also use 10W-30 motor oil as a substitute. I myself use Mobil 1 10w-30 Synthetic even though I have a DOHC motor.

yea 2 quarts is the limit.... easier way to fill is use a 10mm socket and loose the VSS on the back of the trans and use a funnel and pour in 2 quarts, then put the VSS back into the differential . less of a mess , alot easier , and you know you put 2 quarts in...

yeah it was really messy, of all the smart things honda has done, why make a tranny with a fill hole on the side?
I used a hose pump thingy from advanced to pump the MTF into it....like I said, super duper messy...my garage floor hates life at the moment.

I have a gsr tranny and I pulled the cover off the vent tube on top of the tranny and used a peice of 3/8's rubber hose and long tranny funnel.Slid hose over funnel then over the tranny vent tube also put an oil pan under the area while pouring in Genuine Honda MTF.The rubber hose fit snugly over the vent tube and the only oil spill I had was when the fluid slowly dripped out the filler plug in the side of the tranny.
Note:A cheap way to make a good fluid catcher is to cut the side panel off a used coolant jug, just make sure the lid is still in place!

ive always been told taht synthetic in a honda tranny is a big no-no. too slippery for synchros to work properly or something

Yep, I always use Honda MTF, but might be switching to GM friction modified soon enough. The only circumstances where I have used motor oil has been late night runs to walmart. And I never use synthetic, its too thin. If need be, then I will get Mobil 1 10w-40 non synthetic, and change it as soon as I can make it to the dealership to get some MTF.

There is no way you can underfill/overfill it if you fill it from the top bolt where you are supossed to. Just keep putting MTF in until it leaks out a bit. Not that difficult.

That's why you do it with the car on the ground. I just remove my intake and use a long tube funnel I got at Wal Mart. I can easily reach down and put the bolt back in from the top when I see it start coming out.

Re: Tranny Fluid 2 qts? (Ricey McRicerton)
i used this nifty pump i got from advance...it screws in the bottle and you just pump the top, i did it all from the bottom of the car.
i had just the front on jackstands, pumped fluid in until it started leaking out the fill hole....that was about 1.75 quarts.......then i stuck the jack in the rear and raised the back to level with the front and the rest went in.
Whats this VSS place everyone is talking about???

I don't work at a honda dealership but I've worked on hondas for over 10 years and I use redline mtf That really makes a difference
btw 2 quarts is all you need.
