Default Tranny Computer

Hi have 96 civic with 1998 1.6 vtec sohc engine D16y8 Just had a few bad sensors , which i fixed but now ran into all new problem . My transmission bangs going into drive , and also when going into first gear and out of first gear i think (automatic Transmission ) but check engine light is on for transmission sensor , got it checked out at transmission place , he told me the problem is in the computer so i went and got this little (Tcu ) computer which is supposed to be located in driver s side kickpanel checked no computer or wires clips there ???? Could it be i only have a ECU Computer ?? checked around on car cannot find TCU any where ??? Someone told me some models only have ECU and all sensors are tied into it ??? Please any input is appreciated .

Only OBD1 hondas have a seperate tranny computer. With 96 and up (OBD2) hondas, the tranny is controlled by the ecu.

Also it is very very rare for a honda ecu to go bad. The solenoid is probably bad or the tranny has internal damage.

O K This is helpful , Like i stated earlier i had car in a tranny shop put on diognostic machine ,came up with bad solenoid and Computer problem , checked solenoid was good . was told it is the computer or bad wire (short ,cut , or crimped ) But this Computer was from a b16 engine i think here is # s from computer in car 37820-p2e-a71
260 172639 ER
Could i have wrong computer to start with ??? Thought there was only one computer for motor and tranny .
