tranny akward sound in 4th
i have an ls/vtec with si tranny. all gears are good and strong, except 4th thats make a rattle sound. sounds like my heatshield exhaust is loose, but i know when i shift to 4th gear...oh **** something wrong!
could someone tell me what it could be? synchro or 4th gear is bad?

If it sounds like it is the exhaust heat shield making the noise maybe your shift linkage is contacting the exhaust pipe or heatshield when you are in 4th. I have never heard of a tranny making a noise that sounds like a rattling exhaust heatshield in a specific gear.

yeah but I doubt it... he said it sounds like his heatshield is loose ... we all know that if you were to jam it in there and grind gears until it slid in, it wouldn't sound like any heatshield..

it when i am in 4th, like i said it sould like something is loose down there, but its not the heatshield! its when engaged in 4th ricka tick tick..... sound! other gears are fine! 4th when accel and coasting in 4th makes that sound let off clutch no sound or into neutral!
any suggestion before goin to the shop!

actually, its happening to all gears, 4th is the loudest. 1,2,3, and 5 makes that sound but cant hardly hear it! cause of loud exhaust that i have.
so it possibility the throw out bearing?
