all depends on whats wrong with it. labor is what is expensive. the parts wont be too bad if its just syncros.

everytime i am in first gear i can't go over 20mph so what is wrong with it.

why do you think it is an engine problem and what area. It drives fine but just can't go all out while driving it.

is it only in first gear? what happens with various throttle positions?

trouble shooting this problem with your wonderful description is like ******* a dead horse. please be as detailed as you possibly can. what car / motor / tranny etc etc. first you said you think 'my gear are grind up' and then it won't go higher than 20 in first, and now it just bogs out after 20. come on.. there's a lot of smart people on this board, but none of them can read your mind over the internet.

you hear a grinding noise when you shift into gear. if you don't hear a grinding noise, 'your gear are not grind'.

again: i can't help you with such a vauge description. if you want help, i need you to be as absolutely descriptive as possible. post every little detail. a lot more than 'can't punch it after 20'. be very specific: what happens, when it happens, very very specific, any thing unusual, any noises, anytime it doesn't happen etc etc etc. if you don't have the brain capacity to do that good luck.

in first yeah a 2000 si will be in the 35 mph range at red line.

i highly doubt it has anything to do with your tranny if it just cuts out or bogs at 20mph. it has to be something related to the motor. please dont ask me what is wrong unless you give something to help diagnose.

check fluid..u may have the wrong kind of fluid in there..stick with the recommend d OEM fluid s..too many try a too slippery fluid and the syncro s wont engage

its not recommend d a syn fluid be used..its better to use a straight 30w oil

agreed... sometimes it will cost u less to buy a new tranny and sometimes its worth fixing it.... a tranny mechanic told me once "we wont know **** until we actually open the tranny"... so its anyones guess
