Use a volt meter and measure the resistance comming out of the middle wire. 1 Wire should have 5v one is a ground. I think fulled closed you should be getting 0ohm of resistance and fully open around 4.5. Or i have that backwords.

You're on the right track but you measure voltage coming out not ohms. So hook the ground side of the meter to a known good ground (ex. battery negative since its fairly close) and the red lead to the red with blue tracer wire (assuming its and eg style civic) on the TPS connector. Closed should read 0V- about.5V, and WOT it should be about 4.5V- 5V.

its not hard to check the voltage coming from the tps. i put in new one yesterday and set it at .45 at close throttle and i get 4.78 at full throttle, but still have the check engine light for it. im clueless now.

Its not get a T Pin or a sewing needle and push it through the back of the connector
