98 civic b20b swap problems
heres what i have
98 honda civic lx sedan
jdm b20b engine from hmo motors online
only upgrade on engine is 70mm throttle body
3 wire to 2 wire iacv conversion
gsr transmission
running a obd2 to obd1 ecu jumper harness
problems:
starts on point, barely hit the key for a second and it fires right up so mechanical timing is dead on... right?
it will idle rough for a few seconds, clear up and idle perfect at about 800 rpm, sounds good huh? no
it will die with no hesitation, as if the key was switched off.
if it continues to run (sometimes it does) it will drop back to the bad low idle at about 300 rpm and sound like is has a skip or misfire
so i decided to take it up the street for a test, it starts out fine and starts missing around 3k and picks back up around 4500 and if i floor the gas pedal it boggs and its like it hits a rev limiter around 6500 but if i ease into it, it will rev all the way to 7200 with no problem
what has been done so far?
first off there is no check engine light illuminated (not throwing any codes)
i have replaced plugs, wires, distributor, map, tps, iacv, iat, pcv, fuel pump, fuel filter, coolant temp sensor, removed all grounds and cleaned and relaced, checked and rechecked timing 100 times,
i am at a loss, someone please help any advice is appreciated

Re: 98 civic b20b swap problems
Spray throttle body cleaner or starter fluid in TB and see if runs better..if it does it's most likely a lean condition.
Also confirm (don't guess) mechanical timing (crank/cams).
Are the valves properly adjusted?

Re: 98 civic b20b swap problems
While sitting at idle it revs fine, I will try some tb cleaner and see if it makes a difference. Yes the valves are adjusted .005 intake. 007 exhaust also will check timing again. I wonder if any head work (milling) had been done and it' throwing the timing off? Adjustable cam gears maybe?
