Icon2 What is the purpose of the clutch switches?

Are the clutch switches just for starting the car?
On my car, clutch pedal switch B is missing and clutch pedal switch A is disconnected so the car starts without pressing the clutch.
I find it odd that there are two switches for the clutch rather than one so I just want to make sure the clutch switches are only for starting the car, so I'll know it's ok to have them disconnected.

Mostly used for cruise control however on lean-burn cars, it's used for some other purpose, maybe to turn off the shift indicator light or something.
