tow hooks? are they functional or just show?
I see some cars that have em, and I was thinking on going with a silver one to match the stock Si wheels...but the bottom line is I know my car sits pretty low and it would be hard pressed to get it up on a tow truck roll back or not and wanted to know if they can actually support the weight of the car?

I'm not sure if they are better than the stock tow hooks, the real question is what are you wanting them for? To actually function? Or to look cool. Because the stock tow hooks are as sturdy as they come.

looks is always a plus but I just didn't want to be towed and the guy towing the car pushes up on the bumper from the cable used to pull the car up...hoping i'll never need a tow of course lol, but 55.00 isn't a bad investment if it helps out the situation.

i found a better function for a tow hook , since i park my car on the street it helps me prevent dumb people parking behind me of in front of me from scratching my bumper

as a tow truck driver, i would NEVER pull a car by some colorful aluminum tow hook. Even if i was just pulling the car out of a sand pit. It's dangerous and stupid.

tow hooks are gay lol. factory tow hooks are fine. if you want something even more functional than stock, go get a tow hook off a military blazer and weld it up underneith.

Keyword "aluminum". I think the only time they are functional is when being pulled on flat ground with little to no force needed. Thus track only.

I can't recall seeing many actual competition vehicles equipped with those blingtastic aluminum jobs here on the east coast. Most production cars I've seen participating in actual sanctioned racing here use tow straps to avoid causing body damage when bump-drafting.

Just because something is showy or pretty doesn't mean it's not also capable of being functional.
That said, they seem (at least in normal circumstances) to be redundant and possibly problematic (one more point of failure during towing?).

Oh that's nothing back in 97 or 98, we were street racing "illegally" down at a local spot called Kearny Villa and some how the my damn pulley bolt snapped off. The pulley went flying, so I and a friend towed the car something like 5 miles with a electrical cord. The stupid **** you do when your young. LOL!

Looks, I bet the first time you try and pull a car with them the bolts holding on will snap.
And than it gets dangerous....
I wouldn't like a chunk of aluminum flying at my head.

This thread is funny.
I agree with most, although I've never used these tow hooks, the fact that they're just held on to the stock tow hooks by two bolts makes them seem pretty pointless and not very strong.

That's why you should use 4 long bolts and make it go all the way though. If you set on using those type of tow hook. I would look for a metal version instead of aluminum.
