Default Took it up the A$$ last night... :(

So I know this isnt Tech related but Im just lookin for some info from some people who know our cars. Freeway offramp was backed up last night I stopped, guess who didnt? witness behind him says that he cut him off to get off the freeway and never even saw any brake lights before the guy hit me. His car was a late 80's 240sx looked totaled. considering all in all I thing the Egg did pretty well.

Looks pretty good from the outside, but the underneath is a little scarier... The side you see is the only one with damage. the other side looks perfect. but the fact that it rippled the quarter panel scares me.

Driver had No license, No regestration, AND NO INSURANCE! Ive got uninsured coverage but Im afraid that its gonna be totaled. How does it look to you guys? Anybody ever bought back a totaled car from the insurance? How much would I be looking to pay to get her back?

This is the part that scares me the most...

these seats were upright when I was hit. Both are completly broken now... passenger was a bigger guy then me so his took a little more force.

its not that bad. i don't think it's worth it to buy back a civic. if the insurance person says its totalled, just strip it and let the towing company take it away. get another honda if you feel like it.

sucks what happened to your car though. my first sol got hit like that, but much worse (SUV). my seats held up though. 92-95 civic seats

Definitely totaled. My girls new '03 coupe was hit, with much less crumpling / damage, and it was nearly totaled. They ended up having to do practically a whole rear clip on it because all the panels and subframe were crumpled.

EDIT: I noticed it was only on one side, so it might not be that bad. But those rear panels are expensive to replace. It's a close call. Buy it back, part it out.

a dent guy could easily fix that rear quarter. Speaking of, i just got hit by a dumptruck on tuesday. He was trying to switch lanes and i guess didnt see me. Spun me around at like 75 mph. You should see me rear quarter and they're going to repair it...

when first saw this i swas like oh thats no bid deal, but goddamn he hit you hard enough to break the seats? i would keep it if the airbags didnt go off. other wise i would buy it back " i wouldnt pay more the $400" and strip it and sell it to use as a drag car or something.

I know is sucks man, but if the insurance company writes it off, strip the car and move on. Once the egg is hit from behind nothing ever lines up the same unless you take it to an awesome body shop. And then unfortunately, the car gets written off because the work is so expensive. So, youve got yourself a catch 22. Get it fixed cheap and crappy, or get it written off and lose your egg. Id just find a new one.

It doesn't really *look* that bad, but I think it will be totaled out.

By the time you add on the paint costs and everything those bills add up FAST. Also, ever see the price on a pair of OEM seats? Eek.

If the buyback is cheap I would go for it.

totalled...

unfortunately you cant just say i want to buy the car back and get to buy it back.. its up to the insurance company as to whether you will or not. at auction they will get atleast $1500+ for the car. so look to pay or deduct that amount.

Yea insurance buyback pricing makes no sense.

My dad bought some ghetto POS ford escort about 5 years back for $300 or something (he wanted a beater because he was always nervous about using his 65 chevy as a daily driver). Anyways, one night some drunk driver hit and run the car. The damage wasn't that bad, but since the car had basically no value it had to be totaled out (we are talking a $700 check I think?). He inquired about buying it back since it was such a POS anyway...they said "sure, $700".

Fast forward a couple years. My friend has his SI stolen and wrecked. The car had some parts stolen off it (wheels, stereo, etc) but for the most part it was still intact. He inquired about buying it back and they were talking something in the 800-900 range.

So, $700 to buy back a car that is MAYBE worth $700 in actual running/decent condition vs $900 to buyback a car that could sell for who knows how much once fixed.

Go figure?

Damn! give the egg a fighting chance before you ask me to part it Im not really sure what to do with it. Im pretty pissed off cause I had 6 payments left on her, oh well. I am still hoping that the insurance will let me buy it back cheap enough.

Probably totaled...by the look of that fender and the seats you were hit pretty ****** hard, which translates to your frame is probably bent. Sucks man...good luck

Sad sad day! It's not worth putting it back together, it's prolly going to cost a great deal of money to put the car back together. Like a few people said, try to part out the car.

Concerning the guy with no license, yada yada yada. Take him to court, find a lawyer to make sure you get your money. You received no injureis tho right? that looked pretty bad. Or does it look worse then it really was?

I really dont plan on seeing any money from him. The guy had a mexican drivers license, so I have a pretty good idea that he will just "dissapear" if I try and do anything. Welcome to america...

Luckily me and my freind werent seriously hurt just sore now... and though the body may not show too much wear. I think the seats tell the story. The inside bar on both seat backs was sheared clean off.

My buddy totalled-out his camero through insurance.
They sold it back to him for $50. He borrowed $30 from me to get it back .
He walked-away with a check for $3000. And a car that we later fixed for $1000.

If you get a deal like this I'd keep it!! Other-wise its probably gone.

If you were decieved in the manner in which you imply, why on earth did you click on the thread in the first place?

Maybe your location "somewhere over the rainbow" explains it?

Yeah thats what worries me. You can tell everything has shifted just a bit too. Cause where the Rear Quarter and the door meet. That gap is very very close now. and the gap on the rear small hatch is misaligned too.
