Took my car to the track for the first time...
I took my 92' CX hatch to the track for the first time tonight after owning it for a year. My first time I ran was horrible, I couldn't get it into 3rd gear (it's had a bad synchro since I bought it, but i'm not gonna put all the blame on the gear) my reaction times were pretty low, for the most part I got .783 on my first run and a .752 on my second run but my favorite run was against this white turbocharged supra here's the times. I'm in the right lane obviously.
R/T... .711 .752
60'... 2.720 2.603
330... 6.745 7.122
1/8... 9.644 10.807
MPH... 86.19 66.49
1000.. 12.090 14.008
1/4... 14.114 16.696
MPH... 111.99 83.48
Next time i'll be sure to not run on bald Dunlops and take all the crap outta my car.Anybody thing that when I get my new tires and take out the interior I can run like a 15.9? Here's what i've got: 92' CX d16z6, intake, HKS catback, strut bars front and rear, and 16in rota slips?
btw legal drag racing was way more fun than street racing I wish all 18 year olds could learn early. I'll be doing this more often
and my best time was 16.321

Re: Took my car to the track for the first time... (Infamous_Imports)
For some reason i'm thinking it was set at .500. Anyways, I thought I was doing pretty good or somethin...Now I feel like my driving tonight was shitty . Oh well I enjoyed myself and I plan on going back in a week or two. Now the other thing is you guys are telling me to do all these things like lower my 60' etc etc. but you're not telling me how exactly I can go about doing this (besides stating the obvious "practice"). And I neglected to mention I have an ACT heavy duty clutch.
what's a good reaction time?
what's a good 60 etc etc?
I'm full of questions since i'm new to this.

don't worry much about reaction because it doesn't count towards your 1/4 time. I would just try to get that 60' time down. I think its something like each .1 off of your 60' time = .2 off of your 1/4 time. Make sure your not dropping the clutch and spinning tires like mad off the line. Ease off of the clutch and onto the gas. Once the tires start spinning ease up on the gas until they catch a little and then step on it.

Re: Took my car to the track for the first time... (SOHC_MShue)
Yea, I was definately dropping the clutch. I remember my last run all i heard for a good second was screeching, then in second and third. I'll try and remember that next time. Thanks man!
One more thing... I'm going to buy new tires in the morning and I need a tire that is long lasting and great in the water as well as good everyday performance. Can anybody recommend a good tire for me. Appreciate it much h-t.

You get that 60 foot down to a 2.2 where it should be and you can run low 16s easy as the car sits right now. You need to practice better launching techniques.

Um...2.4 is a bullshit 60ft...2.1's are attainable with Azenis at 18-20 PSI and a good launch...i've seen it done twice.
To the thread starter...your 60ft needs to be in the 2.2 range, that 2.7 is HORRIBLE. What were you launching at? Try launching from like 4500-5000 RPM, and feathering the clutch (releasing it lightly not dumping it). Also, lower your tire pressures to like 20psi.
