Tokico Illumina Shocks and Springs question
Hey,
I just recieved these and I was wondering if they is anything i should
tell the mechanic that is going to install them. Anything to let them
know about. Its a good shop but they dont install aftermarket parts
typically so does any precautions/installation techniques have to be
taken for installing these. ie. compressing spring etc. Thanks for help
sorry for long post.

If your kit did not come with bump stops then remind him that your factory bump stops may require some cutting in order to give the shocks proper movement.

The proper tools include ..
8mm-19mm sockets.
Some PB Blaster.
Breaker Bar 3/8 in. and 1/2 in.
Torque Wrench.
Tire Iron.
If you can get your hands on some air tools even better, but I got mine done with that stuff right there. I had to use an acetylene torch because the back bolt wouldnt come out but .. you know .. maybe it would be different on yours.
Most of that stuff you should be able to borrow from someone if you dont have it. Most people have a lot of that stuff. And as for the torque wrench, go to a pepboys or something and theyll let you borrow one for free. You just give them the cost of the wrench in cash, and they give you a little loaner receipt and when youre done with the wrench you bring it back with the receipt and they give you all your cash back. All you need it for is torquing the lugs on the tires anyways.
I say definitely at LEAST TRY it on your own before bringing it to a shop. You may find it easy and save yourself a bunch of cash.

I haven't heard of any of those tools except #1 and #4.
So I dunno even where to start.
Would $100 be a good deal on installation?

if you have no idea on what you're doing or have very little knowledge working on cars, i would not try anything unless you have a friend that knows his or her stuff.
it is obvious that you dont have all the tools necessary to install your dampers. and if you do take it to a shop (i hoep you do) $100 is a not bad deal considering labor rates are around $50-$80 per hour. jus take it to a shop and save yourself a lot of time and frustration. any mechanic working at a reputable shop should know what they're doin, you might have to remind them about triming the bump stops.

i have tokico illuminas and springs..i did them myself..there is 1 special thing. If your driving a civic, on the lower control arm, you need to use these metal spacers that come with the shocks in order to bolt the shock to the lower control arm...otherwise there will be a big gap and ur shock will break.
