tires/rims on civic question.. please reply
i currently bought some rims.. konig holes graphite 17x7 45offset but no tires yet. I have a lowered (1.5inches) 96 civic. I was wondering.. does the treadwear on the tires matter. I was planning to get some 205/40/17 Falken 512. It has treadwear i think 340 or 360. My question is... will my tires scratch/rub?
Or should i get some 205/40/17 Federal ss595 treadwear is 240, but i heard that these tires sux in the rain/wet surface. (Rain season is coming in a month or so here in california) So what should i do or what should i get?.. please help. Your replys are greatly appreciated. Thanks

falken ziex's
treadwear tells you how long the tires will last, the higher the treadwear the longer theyll last. and no you will not rub, your hardly lowered at all.
and next time wait more than20 mins before bumpung your thread, this isnt google. you dont get instant responses

i got this from talking to a tire dealer... treadwear ratings are set by the tire maker not by an independent org such as the SAE, so the results are greatly biased. the treadwear rating is a way for a maker to compare the tread life between its own tires, not between competitor's tires.
to give you an example, previously i ran cheap *** futura tires with a 320 rating and got 20k miles out of them driving hard. my current set is falken ziex 512 tires, there are the stock size btw, 14 inches. i currently have put 20k on them and they are bald but the treadwear rating was 420...so i spent more money for a better stickier tire but got same tread life as the cheap 30 dollar futuras. ur best bet is to just ask in the tire forum about specific tires if u want a better idea of actual treadwears. tirerack.com is great to read about what ppl actually get too.
forgot to mention... besides the low tread life, the falkens performed awesome in the wet and in light/packed snow...although i'm sure 17's would suck in the snow compared to the 14s haha

If you are looking "go" for real peformance the largest rim size would be 15". There are some really good tires for a lot less money.
If its for "show" I don't Know!

Dont compare 2 different brands using their treadwear ratings.
