i got 4 new tires sitting and waiting to be mounted. what do you think of falken ziex 512, performance wise, in snowy condition?

no b/c the tire's compound get hard in cold weather, which prevents it from getting any traction, recomend you to get some winter snow tires, if you think you will need them, just put them on steelies and be able to get around in the snow.

I live in PA and i ran the falkens on my ex (stock 14 inch steelies). me personally, i never had trouble with them on packed snow and they did decent on snow and ice mixed conditions. the only time i had trouble was starting from a dead stop and in slush. i had them installed at a tire dealer and they told me to run them at 50psi, which i later found out contributed to poor tread wear, but in anycase, I ran them all winter at 50psi and they worked really good. u just can't be an *** and expect to go 50mph. i never slid off the road and never had any problems when driving in 2nd gear (automatic btw) on bad country roads.

if you have a manual trans, dont expect to go anywhere in the snow until you get into 2nd... especially if you have any mods.

i have regular all season 195/60/14's and i dont go anywhere in the snow...
2nd gear starts everytime i stop.

IMO the lack of tourque in my Civic has made it a little easier to drive in the snow... i have always used first gear starts even on my 2mm tread left mix-matched crappy all-seasons. If you are good with the clutch it shouldnt be a problem, but obviously dont drive like you stole it when its snowing.

They are a great all season tire. As for hardcore snow, anything less than a snow tire will render you tractionless. Even with snow tires, our cars are so light...

utah snow is either extremely heavy/wet snow... or its fluffy powder snow.
and 9 times outa 10 its heavy/wet... and my car just doesnt go anywhere.
ive got about 5/32" tread left...

but snow tires on the other hand...
i go anywhere i put my steering wheel.

walmart has cheeeeeap snow tires with 40000 mile warrantys. id suggest getting some steelies and some winter tires.

yea different types of snow will have different results... good point

I just oredered my snow tires yesturday to put on my steelies... have some 15" wheels w/ summer tires so I exactly what you said is my plan.
