i just got a set of VX rims and am going to go with the Sumitomo htr200s

my question is have any of you ever tried a 205/60 tire on vxs? the site says that you need a 5.5in wide rim for 205s but do you think i could get away with it? or should i just go with the 195/60s?

I have a ITR tranny with the JDM FD so i want to get as big of a tire as possible for these

sorry if this is the wrong forum but i figured you guys would have the most knowledge on something like this

The 205 rolls over too much IMO on that size.

I had some of those on my last car. But I went crazy and had them stripped and poilshed and they were about 7#'s ea. at that point

I assume your using this for track events ?

The JDM ITR FD is a good idea and undoing it by using a taller tire makes no sense

You should just then sell it and get a b16 box for half the price and run a 9% shorter tire IMO

I'm surprised on a b series swap you would run those rims since it means you have to run really small brakes

well i have volks that i race on and i just bought the vxs for everyday driving around town, i was thinking that the 195s are probably my best bet for everyday driving but still get the most traction out of them

as far as brakes go, all i have is a gsr rear disc conversion, i think they should clear

since we are on the topic, i know that the HX rims are slightly bigger than the VX, what kind of a difference is it, and can a 205 fit on hx?

I don't run them on the street, they are drag only. The tire is too small for street purposes, and they throw off the speedometer horribly.

The best 60ft i've pulled with them is 2.24

From my ~5000 miles of driving with the VX, Sumitomo 175/50 set-up, I can tell you it handles like poop.

The sidewall is entirely too soft, even at 47 psi. And i knew it was going to happen.

Spend your money elsewhere.

yeah im pretty sure i'm gonna go with the sumitomo 195's for the rear and maybe get ao32r's for the front

IMO 195s are too big on that tiny wheel. I honestly wouldn't feel safe on anything bigger than a 185.

Causes the tread to arch upward slighty, giving a a very center-oriented contact patch. The result will be prematurely worn tires (down the center). This setup will be much more sensitive to camber, and the up and down movement of the suspension during hard cornering coupled with this sensitive camber may make the car unpredictable.

i see, yeah that makes sense hmm 185s then maybe
i was thinking that the wider tires would be better for drag but it seems like by what your your saying that if i go with 185s then i will actually have more tread on the ground which would give better traction.....correct?

If you really cared about drag racing you wouldn't be using VX wheels up front. No, you wouldn't have more tread on the ground with 185s as the amount of tire touching the ground is a function of the PSI in the tires and the weight of the car, not the tire width. Tire width only alters the shape of the contact patch.

many people in tampa bay area are running 12s in hatchbacks all motor on vxs. Its a very light rim and if launched right can still be very effective at the track because of how small in diameter it is
i was able to cut consistent 2.2s with mine when i had 185/60s on them i was just curious what a wider tire would be like
