Tire size question for a 98 Civic
I had a car that died right after I put brand new tires on it. It used 195/70R14. My Civic uses 185/70/R14. Can the tires from the dead car be put on the Civic without any issues?

Pretty sure the stock tire size of 98 civic is 185/65/14. This means OP already has oversized tire on his car (185/70/14). I read somewhere that a new tire diameter should not over 3% of stock tire.

I'm not sure but I think the engine needs little more torque for the same speed to compensate lower rpm. I think the brakes need to work little harder as well. I don't think however these could become a problem if the car is not overloaded.

True technically, but realistically insignificant. You would run into clearance issues well before you ran into braking issues from the added rotating mass of a bigger tire, and the whole "needs more torque" thing isn't really noticeable unless you're talking about stupidly heavy tires, or stupidly large wheels.

The OP hasn't even come back to this thread. She's probably younger than her car and doesn't care about the accuracy of her speedometer over the cost of buying new tires.
The question's been answered. Let it die.
