Default ? ? Tire size question ? ?

This question is regarding an EJ1...
Which is better and why for primarily drag strip racing and daily driving. I am not concerned with looks on this question here, primarily acceleration.

15" Slipstream rims 205/50/15 or 215/45/15
or
16" Slipstream rims 205/50/16 or 215/45/16

ALSO, is there a difference between the Falken Azeinis and Zeix?
If so, what is the difference?

They are slipstreams. (I should have noted this earlier).
15"s are 12lbs.
16"s are 13.5lbs.

Big difference between the Ziex and the Azenis. The Ziex is not even comparable to the Azenis in dry grip; in dry conditions the Azenis is actually close to some R-compound tires (though not quite as good). Big difference in treadwear ratings as well, Azenis are 200 and the lowest Ziex rating is 300. Ziex will be much safer in the rain due to the more water-friendly tread design. Azenis are okay in the wet, but keep clear of any standing water or else you'll be hydroplaning everywhere.

Azenis do not make good drag tires. Sure they stick, however the sidewalls are extremely stiff and if you have old worn motor mounts and/or suspension bushings, you're going to have wheel hop so violent you'll be thrown out the moonroof. They don't allow for any better 60' times than any other decent street tire.

Also 215/45-16 Azenis won't fit on a '92-95 Civic EX if you're going to lower it at all; you'll be rubbing all over. Just stick with a 15" wheel, and use 205/50-15s. "205" Azenis is 219mm wide - wider than most "215" tires. Ziex are not oversized like the Azenis are.

definantely go 15" with 205/50/15 azenis. I have 15" slipstreams with 205/50/15 kuhmo ecsta supra's 712 and the tires fit well.

im gonna have to disagree with you there. at least for my personal experience with the tires. if you treat them like drag radials and spin them up nice and let a little pressure out of them they are amazing. i have no wheel hop at all off the line. we put a set of aziens on my friends prelude and he ran 2 tenths better e/t and had a i tenth better 60 foot time. thats just my experiences though. might have been track conditions.

BTW go with the 15's

Neither. Go with 16"s and 215/40 tires.

ok. guess i will throw in my 2cents. I don't know what your looking for out of the rims and tires. But anyways I will try and help out as good as i can. I'm nothing like a guru on tires and rims. So if anyone wants to chime in cool with me.

If your looking for the rims and tires for daily driving and not really race applacations go either 15" or 16" rims. its totaly up to you! ive had 16" and 15" on my EK hatch. the 16s looked nice.

So on 15" rims for looks and daily driving i would go 205/50/15 Zeix
Or on 16" rims for daily driving i would go 205/45/16 Zeix

For a more race less daily driving setup i would go 15" rims with 205/50/15 Azeinis

Ive driven on Ziex and for daily driving they are nice. thay have good dry grip and do oki in water. I have friends that have had Azeinis and they all have good things to say about they for dry driving. I had a set of Avant tires on my 15"s and they were awsome for dry driving. I plan on gettnig a set of Azeinis for my EK.

Well thats my 2cents hope it helps out a bit.

i agree. the aziens wear pretty quick if you take the car to the track alot or if you just abuse them. the zieks wear slower and are probably better in the rain too. i wouldnt trade my aziens for anything though. i still say 15's either way. they are lighter and you dont rub when you drop the car.

There is an excellent post regarding this very topic in the archive that tom started. EVERYONE should check it out. Azenis a awesome in dry, pretty cool in the wet and they are NOT drag tires. I am still averaging shitty 2.3 60 ft on BRAND NEW Azenis which is the same I was running on damn near bald Kumho 711's (OEM Tires).

i ran a 2.4 60 ft time with my pretty much bone stock 98 hatch with them. without them i was running high 2.5's and some 2.6's. Maybe it was the track conditions but the deffinatly gripped for me.

OT, but Kumho Ecsta 711s aren't OEM tires. OEM for your car is the Michelin XGT V4 in 195/55-15. Kumho 711s are light years ahead of the OEM Shitelins.

I personally think the Kumho Ecsta 711 in 205/50-15 is the best buy in the performance street tire market today - the best combo of dry grip, wet grip, treadwear, and price. Can't beat 'em at $43 apiece. For daily driving there is almost no difference between my Azenis and my 711s in the dry, and in the wet the I have far more confidence in the 711s than I ever did with my Azenis.

I still have yet to be able to out-drive 711s on the street - and IMHO anyone who says that they have is a complete moron and should have their license taken away for driving like an irresponsible ******* on the street and endangering the general public. I will keep Azenis around for occasional autocrosses, but I will continue to buy $43 205/50-15 Kumho 711s for street driving for as long as they continue selling them.

There is no doubt that Azenis have a much higher cornering limit in the dry, so if that is the only aspect you're concerned about, then yes the Azenis are definitely "better." However there should be no reason anyone would ever need such a high cornering limit for street driving; I don't have any grip problems on the street whatsoever with my 711s vs. my Azenis. Sure the 711s squeal more and make a bit more noise close to the limit vs. the Azenis at their limit, but the limit of the 711 is still more than enough for street driving in a Honda.

http://www.tirerack.com had the 711s for $43 apiece. I had all 4 of mine shipped to my door within a few days for $202 total, and got them mounted and balanced for free at the shop where I work.

not a bad deal. i wanna try something new anyway. i might look into getting them. The azenis are amazing in turns, you are right. you can feel your car sticking to the ground.

Get 15's with Azenis, you'll be glad you did.

OK, I am now for sure definitely going with 15's, tires on the other hand, I am still undecided. I am hearing very good arguments from both Kumho 711 enthusiasts as well as Azenis owners.

where do yokohama's avs es 100s rank in this debate? I have heard they are comprable to the azenis with better wet and winter drivablilty. They are the third tire that I have usually heard brought up in this arguement and I am surprised that they have yet to be mentioned.
