Default Tire size?

How much side wall is good for a 17" rim. Daily driving and I wanna autocross just a little. Should I get 40/45/55?

Lemme know...what you guys use.

What are you running power wise? that will help determine what size of tire you can run. Obviously A 205/55/17 will be to big (25.88") unless you have the power to back it up.
Since your running a 17'' rim your pretty much limited to running a 205/40/17 unless you have some decent power to spare to overcome the diameter of a larger wheel. The larger you go the more accelerating you sacrifice and acceleration means everything when it comes to racing

BTW I run a 205/40/17 when I drive my car on the street.

i use 205/40-17 on mine. i think 205/55-17 would be too big.

Always been confused about the tire size rating system. Definetly don't want that ruberband thing going on.

If you have to have 17s you will need to run an oversized tire.

In autox with a very low profile tire you will lose alot of contact patch around corners. For daily driving a taller tire just makes for a bit more comfy ride.

Problems you are going to face are fitting them under your fenders and wether you have the power to turn them at a respectable speed.

I had 17's on my car for a few months and i absolutely hated them. I am once again running 15's and they're sooo much better. I was on 205/40/17 and rubbed on hard left/right turns, acceleration sucked and gas mileage sucked. I don't recommend 17's .

I was reading up on one of the euro Spec Racing ITRs and found some interesting setups they use for Road and track:

Front: 225/40/16
Rear: 195/50/15

Sounds like they put some work into it .. from what they say that was the best setup they found to use....
