i need new tires, but my roommate insists that they have to be balanced, so instead of just getting them mounted and slapping them on i have to have a shop do it so they can be balanced on a machine. is this true?

Its not that much to get the tires mounted and balanced. normally comes as a package deal. like $10 per tire cheapest and $20 for the most.

what will happen when you don't balance your tires, at the right speed your wheel will make your whole car shake. usually it's not as annoying driving in town as it is on the highways...

So you were going to mount them yourself? You have a tire machine? Or were you going to use another one of the backwoods moron tricks that so many of the worthless people on this forum use?

No. All balancing does is overinflate the tires. There's no need for it. While your at it, drive around with half the recommended tire pressure

Don't forget to rotate your valve caps.

Did you want a medal or something? Balancing is cheap and effective. The initial post was asinine anyways, and I doubt he even knows what you're talking about

Don't forget to re-lube your muffler bearings
just pay the little bit have them mounted and balanced it will save you a lot of headache and having any problems with vibration

no i was going to have them professionally mounted, i was asking if they had to be balanced on my car.

but apparently this question has been answered.
