I've got a 93' del sol s with a d15b7 at 108,000 miles the engine is amazing and doesnt leak a drop. I'm going to do the timing belt and water pump, and also replace my VSS, ive already bought a t-belt from honda, what type of water pump should i get? and how do i check what type of tranny is on my d15b7?

Get a water pump from Honda, for the D15B7 engine.

Why ARE You replacing your VSS? It's not something you need to change out unless it's broken.

mine is broken, my speedo keeps jumping up and down then it works then it doesnt work it sucks it throws code 17 for the vss so.. i was thinkn of picking up an ex tranny for cheap? how much will it run, how much r the honda waterpumps, they gotta be expensive is it worth it?

also what will i be expected to pay for a vss at a junkyard? 10 bucks?

a waterpump will run you anywhere from 30-50 depending on where you get it...and yes it is important. (plus you might as well replace it with the timing belt and save yourself the hassle later)
an ex tranny will vary depending on the miles and the guy selling it.. 100 maybe a little more or a little less...

edit: i just noticed you are in vancouver...the prices may be a little different

THere's a sticker on the tranny where it mates to the engine on the front. There should also be a bar code on the same sticker. That should tell u the tranny model number.

Also if the sticker isent there its stamped into the differental housing on the transmission itself.

So your going to put in a new trans just because of the VSS? That dosent make much sense to me, thats something you can swap out without replacing the trans.

no im using this oppurtunity to jus swap out my tranny as the long gears of this tranny are fairly grandma-ish

Get the OE Honda waterpump, drivebelts, and cam and crank seal while you're at the dealership.

Doing the belts and waterpump without those seals is pointless IMo, because if they start leaking within a month from now you'll be pulling the timing belt back off again just to get to them, and they're only maybe $30.00 more and about 30 minutes more labor while you're in there.

Also you need to get an Si/EX tranny, and the way to tell it from other crap trannies is a stamp right by the fill plug that will read "B000" on the good tranny, and "A000" on the long geared ones.

check yours and you'll see "A000."

k well im going to go ahead and order from honda the waterpump - $90, cam seal $17 and crank seal $13. ive already got the timing belt which cost me $70 as well,i really wish i could skip the waterpump though as i dont really have 90 bucks to spend, what do u guys think? how can itell if my waterpump is still good?

We fool nobody.

The waterpump is replaced as a preventative measure. If the bearing in the pump starts to go, it'll get really hot as it's spinning. When you shut it off, the heat will seize the bearing to itself, causing the pully not to ever turn again.

Guess what happens next time you try and start it? That brand new timing belt you just put on snaps on the immovable waterpump pully, causing your cam not to turn as the crank turns, causing some poor open valves on your interference cylinder head to get crushed by the moving pistons. Then guess what... time for a new motor. Even though the D15B7 is cheap (I got one today for $100 ) it's still easier to fork out the $90 now and put the pump on then to be without a car for a couple weeks while you try and find a cheap replacement engine. Think about it, no foolin.

Damn dude check out http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com for GOOD prices on Honda parts. I think you're getting over-the-counter-buttfuck pricing on your parts.

That's not meant to offend you, it's just that dealerships charge above and beyond Honda list for over the counter sales to Joe Blows like you and I.

yes the dealership prices are insane, i can also buy my parts from lordco, i dont have a CC, and my parents wont allow me to use theirs. so ordering on-line is almost a no go the prices on that site look really tempting, but as im lookin at the timing belt and the P/N on it, it doesnt match the part number for the timing belt listed under my car. so im still a bit skeptical cus receiving the wrong part if i do order would be even worse then over paying.

They don't show you the Honda part number on hondaautomotiveparts.com... they only show their item number that pertains to their inventory. That number has nothing to do with Honda.

In my opinion, I'd buy genuine for everything but the PCV valve and the fuel filter. Some people on here are pickey and just have to buy EVERYTHING from Honda... but if you don't really care then you can get away with whatever you want. Personally, I think it would be a waste of money buying a fuel filter at the dealership.

I'm sorry but if he has never done a t-belt before and doesn't have anyone helping him he runs better odds of galling the aluminum trying to get his seals out (creating a major ******* problem) and/or rolling the new one on install that he does "preventing" anything. The fact of the matter is that if you regularly change your oil the seals can last up to 200K for the crank and a little less for the cam. Mine have 120 on the water pump and seals and the engine has never leaked a drop because I maintain it. If you never run contamintaed coolant or oil those things last forever.
