Timing question need help

Default Timing question need help

i am putting my block together and changed the timing belt, tensioner, and waterpump . i want to set the timing right , so my question is .
is this right how i am doing this .
on the crank i have it lined up on the red mark which is 16deg stock timing ,
is that right btw its a b16a2 , should i have it lined up on the white mark
or the red one


i have the cams are straight

It needs to be the white mark, the red mark is the one you check your timing with while the motor is running.

use the lone silver mark on the crank, the other 3 are for ignition timing

ok, i actually have the same problem. so you go off the one all by its self and those other 3 are for timing. and the 1 line is for tdc. just confirm please. mine is a b18b1

Same for your motor.
The white mark by itself is Top Dead Center(what you want to set it to). The other three marks are 14, 16, and 18 degrees before TDC. Use those for setting ignition timing.

ok i put it to the white mark then i set the cam straight still with the up arrow facing up and both lines - - equal

now for setting the ignition timing.
i put in the dizzy in and push it all the way towards the firewall correct?
then grab a timing gun and set it to the setting i want on it right?

on initial startup,. just put the dizzy in the middle until the car is warm with all loads off and you use a timing gun

thanks that could have been bad. at first i had it set to the farthest away mark from the one all alone.
