timing issurs with built mini head
ok so i built a z6 head for my mini me, skunk2 cam, cam gear, valve springs, retainers, arp's, z6 timing belt, y8 head gasket. had it together and running great. cam/crank timing was perfect, but the ignition would always reset itself for some reason...(note i did not have a p28, i used the stock ecu for lack of not having another car to drive and no availability of a p28). well i ran for 2 weeks good, the started detonating and pinging....lost all compression in the engine. took it apart and the rings were shot. well i am now selling the head and before i do i want to be able to tell the person thats buying it how to prevent that problem, and find out what caused it. any information would be great. thanks.

ECU Is and Was your problem, You should have spent the $100 on a P28 and saved your engine.
Did you have a P05 Stock ECU or a P06 Stock ECU?

it was the po6. that what i thought my problem was but i wasnt 100% sure.
what i have also seen people do is get a non chipped p28 and use that with an AFC or some other piggy back and a road tune. how would that have worked out with the other mods in the head?

Seems moot at this point, but anything that would have allowed you to add more fuel to prevent detonation, or retard timing a bit for the same effect would have been good. There's always a P28 available from websites that do chipping like phearable.net or even Ebay, you just have to have the funds and willingness to pay up for one.
Seems a shame to toss a head you probably spent $700+ building only to give it away because of no tuning. Get another cheap bottom end and do it over the right way.

accually the head is still in good shape. no scores on the cam no burnt valves and they all still seal. i will admit it was my bad big time for being lazy and not looking at tuning as closly as i thought i was. but the head is being sold and i just want to be able to tell the buyer what to do to prevent it from happening again. thanks for the input.

Did you put your Distibutor on upside down?
ECU will start it and run it, just not well. Z6 cam gear, and Z6 timing belt.
