Timing Cover Melted..Now engine won't start...
Heres the deal..I got a 93 Civic DX hatch..I just put in a 95 sohc vtec motor and was driving it the other day when the battery light came on and the engine just stalled and wouldnt start back up..I pulled over and noticed smoke coming from under the hood..The timing belt cover melted and this is where the smoke was coming from...I took off the cover as much as I could and its melted all over the gears and I'm thinking this is why the car won't start..there is just too much lag on the gears and belt..What caused this? Did my engine overheat? What else could have gone out during this? I just know that i'm pissed..I paid 500$ from a friend for this motor and it didnt even last a day....supposedly it has 60k and came out of a del slo..

definatly sounds like your engine over heated.. do you trust this friend that you bought the motor from?? could he have lied to you?? did you remember to fill the radiator up w/ colant after the swap? did you put enough radiator fluid into the radiator so that once you started driving and it circulated it got to the whole engine, just because the radiator is full doesnt mean that the engine has a enought collant.. it had to build pressure.. it could be a bunch of things, was everything hooked up correctly? d15z6 ecu being used?? need more details.. and one more thing, sorry to hear about the car not running..
