Timing belt woes after new valvespring install....
Well this is the deal... I recently installed Hondasaver valvesprings, retainers and SuperTech intake valves. I reassembled the engine and tensioned the timing belt as per the Helms manual (3 teeth counter-clockwise blah blah).
So about 40 miles later, I pull into my drive way, the car starts to idle like ****, then dies.
I pop the valvecover off and notice the intake cam is off by like 50 degrees!! So after spending $350 on the damn head, the freakin timing belt slips (or comes untensioned) and I was sure i had lost the valvetrain.
Well, I get everything lined back up, retension the belt and the car runs fine. Idles a bit rough (not bad at all), but runs like a champ. It is very much noisier than before... Im going to do a valve adjustment to see if that helps.
My questions is... for all of you with aftermarket valvetrain, do you tension your timing belts differently or did I just get hit with a good dose of "**** for luck"?
Thanks for reading and any help you can give,
-Nick-
