Timing belt, what a pain in the ***
decided to change the timing belt, probably easier to just take the motor out. Any advice from the experts?
So far I've learned....should have had a mechanic do it, the $200 savings is not worth it. Stick to my 5.0, much eaier to work on.

Once you get the crank bolt loose, it is cake work.
BTW quick tip from Honda Tech at local dealer,
DO NOT loosen the tensioner. Just slide the old one of, change the water pump, then slide the new timing belt on. Fairly easy with a stock cam gear.

Almost at that step. What is the best way to lock up the engine so you can take the bolt off? Manual says drop flywheel inspection plate and wedge a screwdriver in there.

airgun. if you don't have a compressor, i would try to find one of those electric impact guns.

drag, air pressure up to at least 90psi? what about the adjustments on the gun? if not, a little oil in the gun helps also.

bottom, where the air line is, not too much though. just a few drops. and make sure you run it for a few seconds and point it away from you, otherwise the oil will get all over whatever you are working on.

Will a breaker bar work? How do you lock up the motor?

Thanks Rodney...got one more question....is the pulley splined so that the TDC mark will line right up when I reinstall it?
also, is it necisarry to have the #1 piston @ TDC on the compression strock when you do the timing belt?

there is a key in the pulley. it only goes on one way. simple. watch out for the washer under the lower cover, between the crank pulley and timing belt crank pulley. it is curved. make sure when you install it the curved side is facing outwards. otherwise, you will shred you timing belt in no tim. and you should have the motor on TDC for #1. if not, the cam might move a little when you pull the belt off. drag, you have aol im? if so, im me- b18c5rodney@aol

*************
AIR TOOLS
*************
Run your compressor up to 140 PSI or at least 120
then you will be able to take it off
I had the same problem

Also use Quick short blasts

I've got the same gun...

Re: Timing belt, what a pain in the *** (DragIIcivic)
put some oil in it first...makes a world of difference.

Re: Timing belt, what a pain in the *** (DragIIcivic)
It should be fine..
most shops run 140+ psi (but they are also using higher quality Ingersall Rand air tools)
but your husky should deal with it fine
I don't recommend going much higher than 140 .. most non-commercial grade compressors can't handle that much pressure..
but your gun should handle it fine..
as for the oil... a few drops a day in the inlet
this is the most important part to air tool life

Re: Timing belt, what a pain in the *** (DragIIcivic)
yeah it is...I'm in the middle of mine right now..and can't get the F ing crankshaft pulley off
an electric impact gun ) just go to sears and get a chain wrench
(It'll be by the tools-maybe plumming??? and will have a bicycle-chain
connected to it if you don't know what it looks like) and put a rag over the
crankcase pulley. You might put little teeth marks into the pulley,
but it's nothing too too bad. Hey, worked for me and it's still fine

I think I'm gonna be alright...I practiced on my SOHC, and got the bolt off...I'll go give it a shot on the B16 tommarrow.
