its not your timing belt because it only gets so tight. the tightness of it is controlled by the spring pulling on tensioner. you cant overtighten it.

check your other drivebelts such as a/c, alternator, power steering. if theyre squeeling, you may need to tighten them.

uuuummm yeah you can have an overtightened timing belt, I have had one.

Set your #1 cylinder to TDC, loosen your belt tensioner bolt( there should be a plug underneath your driver side motor mount) but do not take the bolt out just loosen it. turn your crank pulley counterclockwise till three teeth on your cam gear(s) move over. Then tighten your tensioner back up.

Yes it can be over tightened but i would have to say i dont think that is what is causing it? i did my belt and my car makes a sqealing noise once in awhile and i think mine is by the alternator belt, i would check the other belts first but yes follow the steps above give and just loosen a little bit...

Also you said you read this on here? may i ask where because im curious about this though

yes you cna have a timing belt, that spring dosn't hold the tension on the belt that is NOT a auto tensioner like on a H22 lol!!!!!. its a manual tensioner, you put tension on it till its right then torque the bolt down to 40 foot pounds

make sure you set the tension the engine is cold cause when it warms up the belt tightens a litle bit.

A timing belt that is too tight or worn will make a humming noise. I have experienced both of these problems.

Sorry but that's incorrect.

The spring is there simply to hold the tensioner against the belt.

The tension is set by rotating crank pulley and pulling the slack out of the belt.

Once you have tension pulled on the belt you tighten the bolt that goes through the tensioner.

Refer to a helms manual for all of the specifics. They can be downloaded for free. PM me if you would like to know where.

no **** i know that. you turn it counter clockwise 3 teeth. also if you go more than 3 teeth it just starts getting loose again. this is what ive experienced with all the timing belt changes ive done on different d series engines.

I don't know how but it happens. I took my motor out of my wreaked car and had it sit for 2 weeks then put it in another hatch. I didnt change a thing but when I started the motor the timing belt was tight as hell on one side and very loose on the other.

what kind of belt is it? i had mine changed at a local shop using a goodyear belt. i trust it, but it does make a whine sound as well.

i won't buy anymore goodyear belts tho, the alternator one was terrible, constant squeeling/slipping, and the PS pump belt squeels on startup in cold and when wet at low rpms.
