Default Timing Belt Stretched...Why?

I had a problem with a stretched timing belt where it caused my motor to run shitty as hell and everything. The mechanic put a new one on fixing the problem, but what exactly caused the belt to stretch? I bought the car and it ran fine, then after less than a week of barely even driving it, the problem started. What could have happened to cause the bel tto stretch in such a short time period? and is it something that is gonna happen again easily in the near future when i get my car back? thanks

so you said that after the mechanic put the timing belt on, and it got stretch out after a week? you need to bring it back and tell him to readjust the timing belt properly. new timing belt do stretch after few complete revolutions. but you still be able to adjust it with the tensioner.

no i mean a week after i bought the car (who knows whether the timing belt was new or not at the time) and it ran fine...but i had a rough idle a little...so my friend brought over brand new acura wires to replace the msd ones which i didnt have an msd ignition for...and i dont know if that matters at all for the timing belt being stretched, but after that, the car started the gradually run shittier and shittier till it was crap and didnt get any power basically. then i brought it to the mechanic, he replaced the timing belt and it worked fine...but i wanna know why the car ran fine at first then shortly after, the timing belt became stretched or whatever and the car ran like ****...i dont get what couldve happened to the car in that short of a time...i barely even drove it during that one week period
