Default Timing Belt Replacement? How Much including Labor??

Well, since one of my cam gears skipped a tooth or was maybe installed wrong not by me but the previous owner, I figure thats the main problem why my car is running like ****, contstant stalling, bogging, and no power. Well, my TDC marks don't line up so i might as well change my timing belt and get all my crank and cam shaft lined up at tdc. Well, what is the estimated cost including labor. Is it worth goin to honda or a local shop?. I heard honda charges like 5-600 while like small shops charge about 2-300. Im not sure but i really don't want to bring my car to a shop unless im there watching. Im not that advance in tech to do timing so what do u guys suggest??? Thanks

Do it yourself, u just named the important part in changing the belt by putting everything at TDC. I dont know what engine u have but go to this link, it will help u enough that u should be able to do it yourself.

My estimate at the dealer: $600+tax
My estimate at shops: $350-$450
(Both include water pump replacement)

Cost to do it yourself:
- $40 timing belt
- $40 water pump
- a day or two, if you have an idea of what you're doing...it's not all that hard, unless your timing's already wrong (like yours)

Also, if the TDC marks don't line up, you may have bent valves...another $300 at a machine shop, $45 for a head gasket, and $100 for head studs.

If you're feeling ambitious, do some research and do it yourself. If you have a good socket set, some screwdrivers and wrenches, a torque wrench, a long breaker bar, and some mechanical knowledge, you should be fine. If you don't trust yourself, give it to a shop, and pay around $400 (plus a lot more if you have bent valves).
