Timing Belt Question
ok i have a little bit of an issue, i was driving to pick my girlfriend up from work and when i went in to the parking lot i noticed i didnt have any power steering, so i popped the Hood and my PS belt was hanging off of the pump luckly in one piece. then upon further inspection i noticed my Cranksaft Pulley was wobbling pretty Bad so i shut the motor off and called a tow truck and had it dropped it off at home.
Now this is where the fun starts, Jacked the car up got the wheel off and the splash gaurd off, the Nut holding it was loose enough to twist the rest of the way off. when i got the nut out there where 3 Washers JB welded Together then JB welded to the nut, so there is JB Weld every where. then i noticed the timing Cover was melted on the bottom and a cut where it looks like the Belt was cutting into the cover. the i look at the top of the cover and notice there are simular cut on top. i will take picture here in a little bit. there was only about a 1/2 inch of thread holding the pulley on.
my question is was there supposed to be a Plate or Timing belt guard between the belt and the pulley?
and to top it off when i was looking at the crank post where the Key goes to hold the pulley in place on the crank part of it was sheared off.
the reason i am asking is before i got the car it was sent in for a head gasket to a professional shop and i called them and they dont have any record of the damages to the timing belt or how the crank bolt looked. so they must have been the ones to do this to the car. opinions on how i should handle this would be great, i have the help from the past owner if needed.

Re: Timing Belt Question
The diagram shows how the timing belt covers should look and how the crank pulley and gear are supposed to be installed.
Take clear photographs of the fraudulent installation. Next, I think you should have a serious, calm conversation with the shop supervisor. Bring the photos. If necessary, file a case with small claims court.

Re: Timing Belt Question
He said the shop did the timing belt. He apparently doesn't have the plates. Hmm, sounds fishy.
The first picture posted shows the upper and lower covers. Do you or do you not have the cover? That's the only thing covering the belt.
