Timing belt maintenance and Cruise control intermitent
2000 SI with about 68,000 miles on it, not really driven hard, daily driver, but whens a good time to do the timing belt maintenance?
Also I've recently noticed the Cruise control dosen't always work. Is there any common thing I should check first?
Thanks

do u know how to check your timing belt?. anyways u should change it anyway if its a daily driver. should be changed every 60,000 miles. but if ure not gunna change it right away, at least check it for wear, but change it anyway. bent valves suck

Re: Timing belt maintenance and Cruise control intermitent (Slammed_am)
my repair manual says 90,000 miles for timing belt replacement... but if you use the car under "extreme conditions", i'd suggest 75,000 miles.
cruise control doesn't always work? if you can elaborate on this maybe we can help you out... but one easy check would be the vacuum lines on the cruise control actuator...

tried the search before I made my original post, but it was "temp. unavailable"....as it is now.
As for the cruise control...I never had a problem with it up untill it started getting colder here in PA, but I'd be suprised if that has anything to do with it. I'll press the cruise button on the dash, then when I press and release the Set button at my desired speed (usually around 60-65) the cruise light dosen't com on in the cluster and when I take my foot off the accelerator cruise is obviously not engauged. Its not causingany problems, just a little inconvenient.

Start with basics, check the fuse and make sure the cruise control module is hooked up properly.

yeah thats where I was planning to start, just haven't had any time with work and the holidays to actually get around to it. But wasn't sure if this was a common problem or not.

Re: (schlit)
Checked the fuse (it was good), and the switch had power, but thone only thing I noticed that I wasn't sure of was, is it wouupsed to light up with the parking lights? Mine dosen't, I looked at the bulb but its very small and too hard to see.
I also checked plug underthe hood....seemed fine, not corroded or anything, the Vacume line going to the manifold is good as well.
