so i don't drive my car very often during the summer months and decided to take it for a spin around the block. i get on the freeway and go about 90 all of a sudden the car felt like i ran over a basketball, i start to hear a knocking noise and pull over. the car still idles so i look around and i got a rear flat tire. i turn the car around and try to drive it home but now the battery symbol is turning on. i have no idea wat's goin on with it and wen i finally got it home i noticed the timing belt is dangling off. do you know what might have caused this or how i can fix it> can i just put the belt back on and adjust it and check the timing????


please help me out thanks

I'm no mechanic but:

1. If your timing belt was "dangling off" your car, it wouldn't start/ run!
2. Also, you said that your battery light went on.
3. The battery light went on b/c you were driving the car using the battery's power rather than the alternator.
4. Put the alternator belt back on!
5. Stop going 90 mph.

thats why i always use 2 timing belts, gotta have a back up!

I always heard you could just use a piece of panty hose for a timing belt as a quick fix =D [/sarcasm]

i fixed my motor up to have a timing belt on both sides

that sounds more like muffler bearings to me, you might wanna check those

no you dummy, mufflers don't have bearings. OP, check your muffler fluid

Your alternator/ac belt came off. You wouldn't see if your t-belt came off, b/c its under the valve cover and behind the timing covers. Your motor would just cut off and never crank again, it happened to me the other day...

But your problem is minor. All you have to do is put the alternator belt back on, or maybe get a new one...

haha this **** is funny but seriously i feel bad for the op.

your timing belt is fine, if it was the t-belt that came off, you might be screwed with some bent valves.

just like what cruiserdude said, your alternator belt came off or snapped. just go to an autoparts store and buy one for 15 bucks.

and stop going 90 mph and blowing tires, breaking belts

it's just a shitty situation. sorry for the long explanation im a noob to the mechanics. so now i took off the timing belt cover (plastic piece) does the car still have an alternator belt even if i don't have a/c?

Yes.. You need an alternator belt in order to spin your alternator..

EDIT: Why did you remove the timing belt cover??? Did you read the other posts?

NOTE: Your alternator may not be in front of your engine..

wow, get an alternator belt and if you dont drive it much you should check your tire pressure before getting it up to 90... look it up on google there should be a tutorial somewhere on how to check you tire pressure, take notes,
