I usually put it on and spin the crank half a turn or so (counter clockwise) than i tighten up the tensioner. Try that, how much slack is there in the belt ?

Might wanna post in the accord forum, just in case they require some step we civicers don't need to worry about on our engines.

check it by.. when it is not tightning up... get a tensioner.. if it does the same thing then return.. pretty sure it is the tensioner though.. accords have 2 timming belts.. are there 2 tensioners???

Sometimes you have to push up on the tensioner a little to get the right tension, just be sure you don't get the balance belt too tight.

there is a tensioner and a balancing belt. how do i know if the balancing belt is to tight. so you guys think it is the tensioner to. it is not my car just a side job so i will have them pick both up and i will see what happens. this is making me wonder becuase when i took off the lower cover there was no spring on the balancing belt tensioner, so maybe that is were the problem is. i replaced both springs. also both his belts didn't look in that bad of shape
