If its the OBD1 version use a VX belt, 103 teeth, same as D15B Vtec belt. If its the OBD2 version i'm not sure, i would assume its the same, but not sure.

Yes, again use the VX water pump. basically for the D15B Vtec if you need parts related to the head, intake or exhaust, buy parts for a D16Z6 found in an Si hatch, for the bottom end you want to buy parts for the D15Z1 found in the VX hatch. hope that helps and enjoy your engine, if you've never run one before i can say that as far as SOHC goes these are hard to beat.

A lot of people have said that since you are using the Z6 head, you use the Z6 timing belt. The VX belt will be too tight and whine.

This is true for a D16Z6/D15B7 mini-me, for a real D15B Vtec you need the VX belt though. mine came with an original honda D15B vtec timing belt on it, 103 teeth, same as VX.

Today I finally looked at the timing belt on my D15B in my garage, since I was finally able to get it off. This engine has the original timing belt on it.
The part number is xxxxx-P28-004. The first 5 don't matter, so I didn't bother to remember them. What matters is that the P28-004 belt is for the D16Z6.

So there we have it. The JDM D15B uses the Z6 belt. END OF STORY!

Just need to add that this is for the 1992-1995 D15B.

The 103 tooth belt will fit, though it's on the tight side according to what I've read. With the adjustable belt tensioner, I guess you could get away with it though.

Umm, no, thats not the original timing belt. Yes P28 is for a Z6, but thats still not a D15B vtec belt, the code for a D15B Vtec belt is P08. Why yours has a Z6 belt i don't know. The VX belt is not tight, it fits just like it should, i should know i've been running one for a year. Heres a pic of my original timing belt, you can clearly see the code on it, P08, its 103 teeth, i counted and layed it up against my new VX belt when i got it.

If it's what Honda calls for, then hey, may as well stick to OEM spec.
With the tensioner loose, I can get up to 1inch of deflection. You could get away with the Z6, but the VX belt is right, as you said, and it's a bit cheaper.

thumper64, you said earlier you were running a Z6 belt, what tensioner are you running? When i reasearched the proper timing belt to use for a D15B vtec something i found out is the D15B vtec tensioner does not exist in north america. The closest one is for a D16Z6, or a D15Z1, they both use the same tensioner, the difference between them and the D15B vtec tensioner is the diameter of the roller, Z6/Z1 is larger, sooo I wonder if people who are saying the VX belt is too tight are using a Z6 tensioner, the roller is probably big enough to take up the slack of the one extra tooth on the Z6 belt. I didn't change my tensioner, it wasn't rusty and the bearing felt good in it. Just wondered if you had any insight.
