Timing 1998 Civic EX
So, I removed my dizzy while troubleshooting my igniter (ICM) & replacing a few things (ignition coil and cap & rotor). I removed the dizzy on a tip that it'd be easier to get to the other stuff, but never saw mentioned that afterwards I'd need to reset my timing. Not a huge deal, but I don't have a light & don't expect to need one again anytime soon, so am resistant to buy one just to use once & then sit on the shelf... wish I had read more info; I probably could of done all of the work without removing the dizzy.
ANYWAY, I just failed SMOG today and they told me my timing was at 7BTDC, and that it should be at 12BTDC.
Is 12BTDC correct?
How sloppy would it be to try to guess at the timing and try to adjust without using a light? I think I'll need to get one, but thought I'd ask...
Thanks for your thoughts.

You can check the timing adjustment specs on the sticker on the underside of your hood. I believe its 12 degrees. And harbor freight has timing light for cheap. It's the one I use. I thought I'd buy it and it just sit on the shelf but I've used it quite frequently. I'm not too sure how to adjust ignition timing without a light.
