It's first time to change oil on my car since i got my del sol. What kind oil do you guys use? Is syntatic oil worth to use?

I would use 5W30 regular oil.

I run synth in my motor right now, but I'm probably going to switch to regular oil. It 's just 4 times more expensive and honestly I can't really think of any real gains from using synth.

Honda recommends 5W30, 10W30, and for new motors, 5W20.

10W40 is a bit thick IMO.

Yea your right it is a bit thick, but i have used it for over a year now and it seems to be doing the job, then again Honda motors are built to take abuse right?

Hey Tom I got a quest. for you.......Im pretty sure this was wrong, but i saw a post a few min. ago that stated that a jdm gsr oil filter is different then a usdm gsr oil filter(Bigger). Is this true? Reason is because i am swapping my motor in next week an I wasnt sure.

I used Mobil1 synthetic for a while, and recently switched to Honda oil. I only switched because I was trying to save some money. If you are the kind of person that likes to change your car's oil every 5-6k miles, then synthetic is probably for you. It protects a little while longer...but for everyday driving and changing your oil every 3-4k miles, then regular oil is fine.

And no the oil filters are the same, for the person who asked earlier.

Oh and B series engines should use 10W30 or 5W30 and I've heard of a lot of guys running 0W30 in the winter.

i swear by mobil one. another buick story. 100k on a stock motor. running 11.80's mobil one only never any problems.

I would get Amsoil if I really care about my motor, but I'm gonna do an engine swap so I'm using Mobil 1.

Reason why I'm saying that is, synthetic oil is just better than regular. But why Amsoil over Mobile 1? Because Mobil 1 is just synthesized regular oil unlike Amsoil. Amsoil is made of PAO and Ester particles which is pure synthetic. No carbon buildup, better lubrication, lasts longer(still have to change your filter though). However Mobil1, it's 1/3 of PAO, 1/3 crude oil and 1/3 of hydrocarbon. You still get all the carbon like from regular cheap oils.
What about Redline? I wouldn't use it in my street driven engine. It's made of pure Ester. Ester is a mixture of acid and water. If you shut off you engine before you FULLY warm up to burn all your acid/water, these stuff will be left in the engine. Acid in my engine? no thanks.

Sure Amsoil is double the price of Mobil 1, but it last alot longer than Mobil 1. Amsoil claims their oil doesn't lose it's property until 25,000miles. I woudn't go that far but you get the idea. Change your filter as regulary though.

Mobil 1 5w-30 fully synthetic is what I run. I soon will be running Amsoil though once we start distributing. By the way, good write up El'ation.

Actually yes some of the JDM motors come with the smaller filter like found on the newest Civics, RS-Xs, and CR-Vs. The diameter of the rubber seal on the bottom of the filter (where the filter seals against the oil filter housing) is the exact same as the normal PT7-style 1988-2000 Civic ones or Integra ones, Accord ones, etc.

Basically what I'm saying is that bigger ans smaller filters are pretty much interchangable and I've *heard* that the smaller filter *could* up oil pressure some, but I'm not really sure if that's true or not. I guess it's possible since the filter is smaller, but oh well.

Yep, i would suggest you use mobil 1 10w-30 supersyn, look up the user ejprimo, and see what he says in his posts about the other oils, seems that he has done his homework.

well fellas, I being the poor college student that i am was using mobil 1 for a good long time, however it being so expensive my friend(munscher) and i did a bit of research. I believe there are some good posts about oils and such in the tech section. Also apparently there are entire message boards abou this. Munscher talked to a few people who were very knowledgeable about the topic and found that unless you REALLY and i mean REALLY run your motor hard then you will never get your money's worth out of a high quality synthetic like amsoil or mobil one or whatever. What we found out is that Penzoil high milage is probably the best oil for the price. It has some additives in it that help to condition seals and all that stuff. I dont remember the exact additives that it has in it, but that is what was determined to be the best oil for our money. If you want more info you could message munscher on here. He can steer you in the right direction.

depending i just got jdm b18c1 and im running catrol gtx 10w-30 thats what i would do or kendalls....or that purple stuff if u wanna go synthetic go mobil 1 all the way...just what i think but do what u want .

ok, before i'm deemed the expert (which by no means am i) let me explain what i went through.... i decided that instead of listening to all the hype about certain oils i was gonna do some research of my own to find out what would be my best choice in oils... i read a lot of articles, and i followed a couple of posts (some over 20 pages long) that discussed the ins and outs of oil... they were in depth covering absolutely everything you wanna know about oils (viscosity, flash point, molybdenum concentrations just to name a few). I talked to some of the major contributors to those topics via PMs as well and eventually determined that the best oil for me to go with is gonna be Pennzoil High Mileage and change every 3000 miles.

With that said, the essentials i learned are this... if you change every 3000 miles then you are wasting your money on synthetics, synthetics have additives that allow the oil to work longer without breaking down, regular dino oils will last 3000 miles and then begin to degrade while synthetics will continue to protect. Knowing this i compared prices for Redline (assuming 6000 mile changeovers) and some dino oils (assuming 3000 mile changeovers) and determined i was better off using dino oil. With that decided I did some more reserach on the additive packages that various oils put in their products and through more talking to some key people decided upon Pennzoil High Mileage every 3000 miles.... Taking into account that it is my daily driver, but i drive hard, and it occassionally might see tracks (120k miles).

From what I've read about oil pressures and filter size is it only matters if the filter is a less filtering, more free flowing type, or a finer filtering filter which obviously won't flow as much. And the level of crap in the filter. Otherwise if the filter's flow characteristics and *design* remains the same, the pressure won't change with the size.

i run pennzoil or castrol gtx 10w30 + supertech filter. my motor is stock. i change at 3k or 3 months. no point in spending extra money for the fancy stuff.
