Default tighter steering. what are my options?

i have a 93 si hatch and my steering rack is leeking like crazy. so i figured that i would get a new one, but i would like to get a steering rack that has "tighter" steering. what i mean is a lower ratio of turns of the steering wheel to degrees that the wheels turn. what are my options if any? i would like to keep power steering if i can but if my only option for tighter steering is no p/s than i could do that.

thanx in advance for any input.

cusco makes a steering rack that is a tighter ratio, not legal in most race classes but if its a street car no matter.

Kinda pricy, and it only works for non ps cars. Or it could be the other way around, I can't remember.

Yes you have to get rid of it. Quaife makes a gear set for manual racks that is pretty cheap. 239.00 retail

From their site:

" QUAIFE Quick-Ratio Rack and Pinion Kits
The QSR quick ratio rack and pinion gear set is perhaps the most underrated performance part around. The Quaife rack and pinion gears simply replace the existing pieces inside your stock steering rack housing. More rapid steering response is felt with an average of 25 percent reduction in ratio, resulting in fewer turns lock-to-lock: this translates into much quicker steering and turn in at the cost of a slight increase in effort. The QSR is a must for autocross, drifting, and track days.Designed to fit manual steering racks only. Not for power steering."

sucks that quaife doesn't make a steering rack set for the ek.
although, correct me if i'm wrong, wouldn't the integra set work with the ek assembly? i thought they were pretty much the same.

PS is over rated. Drive without it for three months and you'll notice the difference in the cut of your triceps and biceps. You'll also find that you enjoy the raw feedback of your steering system much more than the numb-float you get from the power-assisted racks. Our cars are less than 2500 pounds (for the most part): PS is for PUSSIES

I flew off track at 110 at an HPDE because there wasn't enough touch in my PS system going that fast (for my novice hands, anyhow). I took the bastard off as soon as I got home .

Remove it. less strain on the motor = more to the wheels
