tie rods, replace inner or just outer?
I have a 93 Civic 150k the steering feels sloppy. The boots on the tie rods are torn and overlooked by the previous owner. Also the ball joints look bad and so does the rubber at the end of the tie rod. So I plan on replacing all of it with fresh rubber and new ends. My question is the title of the topic, should I replace the inner tie rods or just the outer? Yes I know I will need an alignment (for people who like to answer questions not asked). Thanks in advance for replies.

Re: (syclone)
Just the outers exclusively? There's no benefit to getting fresh inner tie rods? I'm just going to let the alignment tech do it rather than have them bitch at me about it when I get the alignment. I'm not going to try marking the tie rods I'll just get it realigned since I need to adjust my coilovers anyway.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: (shaundrake)
There's definitely a benefit to doing the inners if you need them and it's not all that hard but would probably be easiest done by removing the steering rack.
I had some problems with mine and started by replacing the outer tie rods and boots but ended up replacing the whole damn rack because it was clunking really bad when I would turn the wheel back and forth or go over bumps in the road.
I crossed my fingers and bought a rack from salvage then took my new tie rods off the old rack and put them on the new rack.
I got the allignment pretty damn close just by using a ruler with metrics on it. I measured from the last thread on the inner tie rod where the jam nut for the outer tie rod is to the edge of the outer tie rod. Then I just put the tie rods on the new rack and screwed them on until I had the exact measurement that was on the old rack. The allignment wasn't perfect but pretty damn close... it rolled straight at least until I got it to the allignment shop.
