my car started making a ticking sound the other day. its a mini me swap, d15b7 block with a d16z6 head. sounds like a valve tick so i did a valve adjust on it and it didn't make a difference. one of my boys said i may have a worn cam or cam journal. i am goin to check that in the am but just wanted to get input from people to see if anyone has had the same problem.

Are you sure it's coming from the head?

My y7 isn't the quitest thing on the block, but it's really only loud at idle.

If its in the head its most likly not a cam journal but MAYBE a cam lobe.

if a cam lobe is scored up, when you look at it you'll see it. Pull the cam and if it is, go zex or bishimoto stage 1 and you won't need a tune(= to d15b stock cam). if it's valve lash readjust your valves, but the damage could be done. in any case PULL THE HEAD and INSPECT.

i think its when the vtec heads get old they start makeing a slight ticking noise mine sounded like a small knock but the motor was like that till i sold the car

it does get louder and faster as i rev the engine. it is more noticeable when the engine is under a load.

havent had a chance to pull it all apart and inspect the cam or head yet. but i dont want to put anymore money into the sohc. i have a h22 that i will be puttin in the car once the engine is ready.

i talked to my mechanic today and he said if i dont find anything wrong with the cam or head to readjust the valves but go a lil tighter than spec.

go with a valve adjustment first before making any crazy decisions.
